A former West Hatch High School student is through to the next stage of the BBC ONE talent show The Voice.

Ryan Green, who left the Chigwell school in 2013 having studied GCSE music, was among the performers in the first show of the new series aired tonight (Saturday, January 10).

It is the second time he has appeared on the show having failed to get through the ‘blind audition’ stage last year.

This time he was chosen by Rita Ora, who is making her debut as one of the four coaches on the show.

Ryan said he wanted to make another appearance on The Voice to show the panel how he has progressed over the past year.

Last year Ryan, 18, who lives in Hainault, performed 'Don't Go' by Josh Kumra. This year he sang 'Magic' by Coldplay.

Ryan said: “I was really nervous and worried about not getting through again and what it might do to my career but I got up on stage and was only singing for about ten seconds, looked up and Rita Ora had turned round!

“Obviously I had done something right in the first few seconds!”

Ryan added: “I had such a great experience last year and to get to perform in front of the four coaches was great. I had such a great time.

“I wanted to go back and show them how I’ve improved in the last year so I put myself forward again.”

Ryan is a singer/pianist who during his time at West Hatch High School was a regular at school concerts sometimes performing his own work.

West Hatch High School music teacher Mauro Sheehan said: “Ryan performed at every concert the school put on during his time at West Hatch and also appeared at various local functions.”

Ryan also plays percussion and attended Redbridge Music School.

He is currently studying full-time at the Brit School.

Ryan is the latest West Hatch High School student to appear on a national television talent show.

Jonathan Antoine and Charlotte Jaconelli, the singing duo Jonathan and Charlotte, were runners-up in ITV's Britain's Got Talent three years ago while Sonny Jay, part of the Loveable Rogues, reached the final in the same year.

John Wilding reached the judges' houses stage on ITV's X-Factor for two successive years in 2010 and 2011.
