Exam Results - Main School

Students at West Hatch High School, Chigwell, were celebrating their GCSE examination results with the vast majority enrolling into the school’s Sixth Form.

A school spokesman said: "Overall results were once again significantly improved from last year's outcomes and the school is delighted. Our students have performed impressively despite the constant disruption they have faced over the last few years. Having achieved very positive results across the board, there were some standout individual and subject successes. In addition to exceptionally high overall pass rates, the number of students achieving the top grades were impressive."

Headteacher Daniel Leonard said: "I am just so delighted for these students. They have always been a tremendous year group and I am so proud of what they have achieved. "

"As with our Year 13 outcomes, these are my final results as Headteacher and for this year group to have achieved our best ever results has made me so happy. It’s great to be able to leave the school on the back of such wonderful outcomes at both A-Level and GCSE. Like last year’s cohort, this year have been faced with disruption, including Covid and strike action throughout their studies. They should be exceptionally proud of what they have achieved and the perseverance they have shown to achieve such wonderful results, I certainly am. I’m sure I speak for all of our students in thanking the staff who have helped them to achieve such fantastic results this year."

West Hatch High School's Sixth Form is well known for its excellent provision and results, extensive range of well-established A-Level and Vocational Courses, its Work Shadowing, Extended Project Qualification, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and opportunities to trek and travel abroad.

Mr Leonard said: "When our Sixth Formers leave, they take with them the confidence, skills and excellent results enabling them to compete with the best."

2019 (pre-Covid) GCSE Exam Results

Schools are required to continue to display 2018 to 2019 performance measures until new performance measures are published.  Given that 2019 to 2020 results were based on centre assessed grades, the Government has not published the performance measures.  Below are the figures that must be displayed, but for more information please view the Government's Performance Data here. https://www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/school/136758/west-hatch-high-school/secondary

Progress 8 score    -0.06  (The local authority (Essex) average score for state-funded schools is -0.13)

This score shows how much progress pupils at this school made between the end of Key Stage 2 and the end of Key Stage 4, compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of Key Stage 2. This is based on results in up to 8 qualifications, which include English, Maths, 3 English Baccalaureate qualifications including Sciences, Computer Science, History, Geography and Languages, and 3 other additional approved qualifications.

% of students achieving 5 or above in both English and Maths     33%

This tells you the percentage of pupils who achieved grade 5 or above in the 2017 reformed English and Maths GCSEs.

Attainment 8 score       44.3

Schools get a score based on how well pupils have performed in up to 8 qualifications, which include English, Maths, 3 English Baccalaureate qualifications including Sciences, Computer Science, History, Geography and Languages, and 3 other additional approved qualifications.

English Baccalaureate (EBacc) average point score (APS)        3.66

The EBacc APS calculates a pupil's average point scores across the 5 pillars of the English Baccalaureate, allocating points to a pupil's best grades and dividing by 6 (the Science grades count in 2 pillars, meaning a total of 6 pillars) to create an average point score per pupil.

% of students entered into the EBacc         40%

A pupil is considered to have entered for the English Baccalaureate if they entered for qualifications in English, Maths, Sciences, a Language and either History or Geography. The English Baccalaureate (EBacc) is not a test or qualification; it is a measure used to provide information about a particular range of qualifications.
